The Village of Paziols

Paziols is located in the Corbières district of Aude. This area of South West France, is set in the foothills of the Pyrennes, is close to the Mediterranean, and enjoys mild winters and hot summers.

Despite it’s small size the village has a small grocery store, a cafe, a Tuesday morning market, a post office and a park with a tennis court and children’s play area. Supermarkets and large shops can be found in Estagel (20 min) and Perpignan, about 40 kms away.

Outdoor Activities

Walking, Hiking, and Biking

In the valley, the walking is gentle. Once you get out of the valley there are more challenging walks, hikes, and mountain biking trails in the surrounding foothills, or for extreme activities you can visit the Pyrenees Mountains, that are located about an hours drive from Paziols.

The great medieval castles are a spectacular feature of the region. The Albigensian crusade against the Cathar heresy occurred in this region in the 13th century - a brutal and dramatic history which comes vividly to life among the castle ruins. The extraordinary walled city of Carcassonne, one of the most dramatic medieval sites of Europe, is only an hours drive away.

For the bird watcher and naturalist, the area has a wide variety of Mediterranean flowers, birds (flamingoes and egrets on the Etangs) and animals, including wild boar.

Swimming
Within walking distance of La Serre, our local river, the Verdouble provides a beautiful and safe place for swimming and sunbathing. There are also lovely swimming areas in the river near Tautavel, the Gorges de Gouleyrous and the Gorges du Verdouble, near Duilhac-sous-Peyrepertuse.

As well, the Mediterranean is only 45 minutes drive away and it is littered with miles of sandy beaches. And, the Etangs, inland salt water lakes, are ideal for wind-surfing and sailing.
